So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish

I'll not be posting to this blog for the foreseeable future, if ever. I hope you enjoy the archives, accessible over there in the right hand column. I'm particularly proud of the "humor", but I think (hope?) each category has a few worth reading.

As to why ... well, in a world with millions of blogs on every conceivable subject, I don't think I have anything more of substance to add. This blog has served its purpose, allowing me the chance to improve my writing skills and to work through changing from being a city nerd to a country bumpkin. Now that the adjustment is mostly over, it's time to get on with actually living.

All the best and thanks for the support,

Jeff

Jeff, It has been a blast reading your blog. Sorry to see you go, but life is like that sometimes.

Should you ever return at some other place, drop me a line.

Best,
Allen

But I just found your blog!

But ... but ... but

Oh, hell.

I would offer that blogs don't need a purpose beyond acting as a cathartic for the writer and entertainment for the reader. There are precious few well-written blogs out there and I considered yours among them.

As someone who has also made the transition from suburban to urban life I always enjoyed you thoughts on the subject. I've missed that as your posts have become less frequent and am disappointed that you won't be writing anymore. But, you have to decide what is best for yourself, so all I can say is "Happy Trails and remember to never squat with yer spurs on."

Jeff,
Thanks for all the great posts.
I have really enjoyed reading your blog and appreciate you sharing your life with us in this way.
The problem is that checking your blog has become a habit. what will I do without you??? I guess I'll have to go back to AddictingGames.com and my brain will further turn to gel.
By the way, Thanksgiving Day is approaching - got any good recipes?
Love you brother.

Gosh, darn...just as I was beginning to feel more enlightened as a neo-nerd after learning about RPGs and HM. It's been a good read to follow your most interesting evolution.
Congratulations on your arrival!

Jeff, I will surely miss reading your blog and keeping up with your life and your views. I don't think you've even put a smidge of a dent in the limitless amount of writing and thinking talent you've got hidden inside of you, dear, dear brother. I also check your blog on a regular basis -- what will I do without you? Think about another blog, okay? I quietly observed (if that's the right word) 10 years of writing my column for the newspaper last month. I thought I'd run out of topics after six months. Perhaps the people who read the paper would say I ran out of ideas a long time ago, but there's something fulfilling about expressing your views for others to see and there just might be that one person who clicks with what you say and it touches their hearts and ignites their minds. I daresay you've given the people who read your blog food for thought, and that's always a great thing, even if we disagree and especially when we agree. I accept your decision but not that you've run out of thoughts to express. The ironic thing is -- you've got something to say that's worthwhile and you're stepping away from the keyboard while others, who should have their fingers taped together, continue to litter up the Internet waves with tripe. You shall, dear sibling, be sorely missed. Love you always -- Denise

I just read you are closing your blog. And I think I understand. The damn things are hungry beasts. and I've had the same thoughts you expressed on shuttering yours.

But damn, bud, you are good.

I feel the same way I did when Northern Exposure went dark. Bummed.

Say it isn't so. You're so funny. Smart. Insightful. Outrageous. You must have something else up your sleeve. A book. A movie. A comic. Don't leave. Don't hang up. Don't walk out.
Sigh. You know what's best right now. Hope you have fun. Stay in the middle of things. Speak up.
We'll miss nerdcountry. So long and thanks for the dance.

See!! You're much needed -- by the way, is that sky writing from "Hitchhiker's Guide" book? Is this what you've been trying to warn us about all this time?! - Denise

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. As to whether or not I'll continue on with another blog, I'm not really sure yet. There is more content I want to add to atheistfaq, but I don't know when I'll get around to that. The idea of starting a completely anonymous blog that isn't tied to me in reality is very tempting, but then, I don't know for sure about that, either. I guess I don't have all that much to say any more.

The post title is indeed from "A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". It is a reference to the message the second-most intelligent species on Earth, dolphins, leave to humanity when they learn that the planet is due to be razed to make way for an intergalactic highway off-ramp.
