It's Just a Game ...

The University of Oklahoma played a football game on Saturday against the University of Oregon, in Oregon. The very end of the game featured two controversial calls by the officials, both of which were upheld after an instant replay review, which directly led to a come-from-behind Oregon victory.

Oklahoma should have won, but they didn't because of two bad calls. The officials have admitted they were wrong. The Pac-10 (the conference Oregon plays in) admitted the calls were wrong. Everyone has apologized profusely and admitted they blew it. Twice.

The replay official in question has been having a tough go of it:

“I can’t sleep, I can’t eat, my blood pressure is skyrocketing,” Riese said, looking haggard and worn as he sat on the front porch of his house.

His wife is a registered nurse, and has been checking his blood pressure every four hours, he said.

Riese said he has stopped answering the phone, and police are investigating the threatening calls while keeping an eye on his neighborhood.

“They not only threatened me, they threatened my wife and kids,” Riese said.

The guy made a bad couple of calls using out of date equipment and under a time crunch, and some fan took the time to call the man's house and threaten the lives of his wife and children.

Because of a football game. A game!

Some people really, really need to get a life.

No one likes to think that bad calls turn the outcome of a game as significantly as that.

...BUT....if this kind of thing has to happen, I hope it is ALWAYS OU on the losing end.

Did you hear that the refs got suspended from the NCAA for a week?

You may recall that the very NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP game between Miami and Ohio State was supposedly decided by a pass interferance call. It was overtime, and Miami had seemingly stopped Ohio State on 4th down, thus clinching the win. But no! A Miami DB was called for pass interferance! Automatic first down! OSU then scores and the rest is history.

Okay, so it is completely okay with me that this also happened to Miami.

Amen to that, brother! I was actually watching the game, because as I've told Annie on many occasions, watching OU use is almost as much fun as watching UT win. I had changed the tuner when they looked like they were going to win. Then on the other game I was watching the scroll at the bottom said Oregon was only a touchdown back and I was like, WTF? So I flipped back, rewound the TiVo, and was able to catch the entire, painful, glorious beat-down in its entirety.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer team.
