"Evil Unleashed", Unleashed!

I used to do a fair amount of freelance work for HERO Games, publishers of "Champions", the super-hero role-playing system. While trying to clean up my hard drive I came across a few illustrations I did for them recently for their "Evil Unleashed" book (for sale here!) and thought I'd share them.

This is the book where these illustrations appeared. Note that four of my drawings made the cover -- woot for me!

Hammerhead was a big, mean, wall-smashing villain in the grand tradition of The Hulk. I wanted something grim, savage, mean, and powerful looking. The color image was all in browns and murky yellows, but I liked the grayscale version better.

Cahokian, meanwhile, is a more calculating villain, deadly with the crossbow and proud of his Native heritage. The hardest part of this illustration was the crossbow -- it took a lot of attention to detail laying it out in Flash, then fitting it into the character's hands. I can't imagine trying to do it all on one piece of paper like in the old days, trying desperately not to flub anything and trashing the whole drawing.

Excellent!
Hammerhead just oozes power. I like his expression as well.
who is the guy in the cloak?

If you mean the cloaked guy with the hat on the cover, his name I think was Josiah Brimstone. I have it here on my drive, but didn't upload it since I didn't think it was one of my better efforts. I also hate the image of the woman on the cover, I did a crap job on that.

I should probably do a separate post on her, explaining what agony it is most of the time for an artist to look at their own work. All I ever see are the flaws.

Those are awesome!
You should be proud of them, I know I am. Why, you ask? Well, I like to think that I am the creative magic behind your talented hands. Of course, this is completely baseless and totally fabricated, but it's a nice fantasy I like to revisit from time to time. Makes me feel good. Maybe someday I will tell you how I help out Bill Gates ...

Incredible, Jeff!! You are really so talented, and your drawings made the cover!! Since I'm older than Jimmy Mac, I'd have to say your talent comes from me first, him second....

That explains why, when I'm working at the computer, I can feel my skin start to pale, my beard turn reddish, and my spine start to lengthen to give me more height, I was wondering what the heck was going on!
